Star Batter Kane Williamson Set To Be Included In New Zealand’s World Cup Squad

The New Zealand team will get a big boost as captain Kane Williamson has undergone successful knee surgery and is ready to return to the squad for the ODI World Cup in India. The Kiwi captain has been confirmed to be part of his 15-man New Zealand squad for the big event.

Williamson is recovering well from the knee injury sustained in the Indian Premier League (IPL) first leg against the Chennai Super Kings. The 33-year-old tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, requiring surgery and is currently in rehab with his England team.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead has praised the efforts of Kane Williamson during his rehab to the media. Stead claimed management was happy to have him selected for the World Cup.

“Kane has demonstrated an extraordinary dedication to rehabilitation and is supported by a strong panel of experts around him.”

“He has done everything in his power to return to playing cricket at the highest level and I am delighted to have him selected,” said Gary Stead.

Kane Williamson led the New Zealand team to the final of the 2019 ODI World Cup, but lost to England in the Superover. Meanwhile, wicketkeeper and batsman Tom Latham leads the team in ODI cricket during his absence.

Williamson’s return could be a big boost for the team as he can lock the inning in middle overs for the Black Caps.

New Zealand has one of the most consistent results in white ball ICC events, reaching the finals of the ODI World Cup in 2015 and 2019, followed by 2021. It also advanced to the T20 World Cup final in 2016.

The team has performed very well in ICC events against top league opponents, consistently making it to the knockout stages of ICC events and performing well in the main event in India. I aim to perform.
