Onome Ebi calms frustrated Nigerian fan, calls for support

Nigeria’s Super Eagles secured two disappointing draws in their recent encounters against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Super Falcons captain Onome Ebi has responded to calls from frustrated Nigerian football fans for the Super Eagles to improve, Soccernet.ng reported.

Amid criticism following back-to-back draws with Lesotho and Zimbabwe, Nigeria international Onome Ebi has defended the Super Eagles and called for the team’s support amid recent backlash against players and coach Jose Peceiro.

The Super Eagles picked up just two points from the 1-1 draw and are currently in third place in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Round.

The result sparked a wave of criticism and led to apologies, including one from FC Nantes striker Simon Moses.

The news article, already reported by Soccernet.ng yesterday, sparked many reactions on social media platforms, including from soccer fans who called for improvements.

“Tell them to improve. That’s what we want. Nothing more. When they’re tired, let them go. They’re experts. Or are you playing for free?”writes a fan

Responding to fans’ pleas for improvement, Ebi assured the team to improve its performance and stressed the importance of Nigerian fans’ support.

“They do so and need our support and encouragement,” she wrote.

As the Super Eagles prepare to take on Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau in the African Cup of Nations starting in January 2024, hopes are high that they will live up to their ‘Let’s do it again’ mantra. Staying true to her and ensuring she wins her fourth AFCON trophy, she should once again bring joy to her Nigerian fans.
