Mujeeb ur Rahman will not play Melbourne Renegades’ next game in the 2023/24 Big Bash League after a change in his No-Objection Certificate conditions.
Mujeeb, along with Naveen-ul-Haq and Fazalhaq Farooqi, are among three others sanctioned by the Afghanistan Cricket Board last month for opting out of a central contract to play in the T20 league on grounds of preference. He was one of the Afghan cricket players. As a result, the ACB disciplined the three players for “prioritizing personal gain over playing for the Afghan national team, which is considered a national responsibility” and suspended them from participating in the NOC for the next two years. , this is not the case when they were allowed to participate in foreign leagues.
The ACB statement was released on December 25th, but Mujeeb has since appeared in two games for the Melbourne Renegades, and the team said, “We have received notice that Mujeeb’s participation in the BBL has been changed from the original plan. “We have not received any.”
On Monday, January 1, the Renegades released a new statement that ruled him unavailable for their next game against Melbourne Stars on Tuesday. “Mujeeb-ur-Rahman has been removed from the squad as he is unable to participate in the match due to the change in NOC status.”
Naveen and Farooqui have since “demonstrated a strong desire to represent their country again” and have been selected in Afghanistan’s squad for the T20I series against the UAE. Mujeeb was not selected for the series and continued playing in the BBL.
Early last month, Mujeeb was selected by Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2024 at a base price of Rs. Naveen has been acquired by Lucknow Super Giants for next season, while Farooqi plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad and is expected to stay beyond 2023.
