Daniil Medvedev ‘hoping to break streak’ at remaining tournaments in 2023
Daniil Medvedev has announced his intention to win his 21st title by the end of the season, which would end a winning streak that began in January 2018.
Medvedev won his first title in Sydney about six years ago and has since won 20 titles, all in different cities.
The ATP Ranking No. 3 had hoped to reach this 21st place in the China Open final in Beijing on Wednesday, but was narrowly eliminated by Jannik Sinner.
Nevertheless, Medvedev hopes to continue his efforts towards the Shanghai Masters. “I think everyone is a little tired. It’s the end of the season. I know that when you’re in that kind of condition, for example when you played in the final and played well, you better stay in shape. .
“I will come there (Shanghai) and do my best. I think the ball is different. I don’t know if the cooking is different. I definitely need time to adjust. I’m feeling good now . I want to continue playing well this season. It’s not over. There are many points to try. ”
The Shanghai Masters will return after not being held since 2019, when Medvedev defeated Alexander Zverev to win the title.
And the Russian wants to keep the title and end his streak of winning titles in different cities. “He still has four tournaments left this year and he’s already won all four, so I hope he can end this streak.” I believe it can be done. ”
He further added: “Any tournament I haven’t won yet, not only on hard courts, but especially on hard courts, is something I would like to achieve in my career.”
In fact, Medvedev has already won four of the five remaining tournaments he will compete in this year, and the 27-year-old will face Cristian Garin in Shanghai starting tomorrow.
