IPL 2024 has unearthed several uncapped Indian gems already, as it does every year. Here is Wisden’s Indian uncapped T20 XI.

As the caravan of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League rolls on, here’s a look at a potential XI of uncapped Indian players based on their performances both in the IPL and in the domestic T20 circuit.

Wisden’s Indian uncapped T20 XI

Abhishek Sharma

Sharma has made headlines ever since his U19 days, having been a part of the famous 2018 U19 World Cup group of players. Having blown hot and cold for several seasons in the IPL, he seems to have finally come into his own in IPL 2024, striking at more than 200 after the first four games of the season. His T20 career strike rate stands at an impressive 148 after more than 90 games and to go with it, he also has 30 wickets to his name at the time of writing.

Prabhsimran Singh (wk)

Another Punjab youngster, Prabhsimran was picked up by Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) before he even made his T20 debut at the IPL 2019 auction. Known for his aggressive intent at the top of the order, the wicketkeeper-batter has a strike rate of 142 in his T20 career. He was a part of the Indian squad for the 2023 Asian Games, but didn’t feature in the XI, making him eligible for this team.

Vishnu Vinod

The 30-year-old wicketkeeper-batter from Kerala made his T20 debut ten years back and has been a part of four different IPL teams. Averaging 34 and striking at 142, he has been a consistent performer at the domestic level, even though chances have been tough to come by in the IPL.

Riyan Parag

Riyan, also a part of the 2018 U19 batch of players, made his IPL debut as a 17-year-old. After consistently smashing it around in the domestic circuit for several years, he finally seems to have cracked the IPL code in 2024, having scored 185 runs from the first four games of the season.

Mahipal Lomror

The left-handed middle order batter has a career T20 strike rate of 128. However, this season for RCB, he has shown a significant improvement in his hitting abilities, having scored at a strike rate of 238.1 as a finisher. Add to that his part-time left-arm spin bowling skills, and he becomes a valuable multi-utility cricketer to have in the team.

Abdul Samad

The 22-year-old finisher from Jammu & Kashmir has had the attention of viewers ever since he broke through in IPL 2020. He has a T20 career strike rate of 144 and has already shown an incredible ability to hit the best of fast bowlers out of the park in pressure situations at the death in his short IPL career so far.

Rahul Tewatia

Tewatia, the leg-spinning all-rounder from Haryana, first featured in the IPL in 2014, but has really made a name for himself as a reliable finisher in the last few years, with his bowling taking a back seat. His career batting strike rate reads 142.50 and he has 69 wickets as well.

Harpreet Brar

The left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder from Punjab has been consistently hard to hit at the IPL as well as in domestic cricket as suggested by his T20 career economy rate of seven. He can also wield the willow, lending batting depth to the team.

Mayank Yadav

He had to be there, didn’t he? The 21-year-old quick from Delhi has taken world cricket by storm with his speed gun-breaking thunderbolts in IPL 2024 and already has people excited to watch him in India colours.

Yash Thakur

The 25-year-old right-arm seamer from Vidarbha often goes underrated, but has been a consistent performer in the shortest format in domestic cricket as well as for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL. At the time of writing, he has 74 wickets from just 49 games to his name at an impressive average of 16, and very recently picked a five-for against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024.

Mohsin Khan

The left-arm quick with an unusually short run-up burst onto the scene in IPL 2022. With his rapid pace and the ability to hit the deck hard, people touted for him to be fast-tracked into the national setup before a serious injury disrupted his progress. He is back now and with 64 wickets from 46 games already, he’s one of the most exciting uncapped fast bowlers going around in India.
