The IPL 2024 auction saw two players go over the INR 20-crore mark, a first in the history of the tournament — here are the most expensive players bought in the auction.
IPL 2024 auction: Most expensive players
Mitchell Starc: INR 24.75 crore (Kolkata Knight Riders)
Mitchell Starc joined Kolkata Knight Riders for a sum of Rs 2,475 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL auction history. There was a fierce competition between KKR and Gujarat Titans to sign the left-hander, who was transferred to his former club. Starc was acquired by KKR in 2018 but was unable to play due to injury and his last appearance in the league was in 2015.
That’s a GRAND return to the IPL for Mitchell Starc 😎

Pat Cummins: INR 20.5 crore (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
Pat Cummins has signed a big contract with Sunrisers Hyderabad, earning him Rs 2.05 crore. He is currently the second most expensive player in IPL auction history. Cummins’ leadership qualities have been highlighted by Australia’s victory in his World Test championship and his 50 overs in the World Cup, and he is likely to lead SRH in his next IPL.

Daryl Mitchell: INR 14 crore (Chennai Super Kings)
Mitchell showed his mettle at the 2023 World Cup, scoring 552 points in 10 matches, and has been consistent across formats for New Zealand. Known for his spin handling skills, he has the potential to excel on the dull surfaces often encountered at Chepauk, Chennai.

Harshal Patel: INR 11.75 crore (Punjab Kings)
Indian Quick is the most expensive Indian at auction and one of the most iconic slow bowling bowlers. Harshal, the 2021 Purple Cap winner, conceded 7.66 runs over in 2022 but proved to be expensive last year and was released by RCB.
Alzarri Joseph: INR 11.50 crore (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
Given RCB’s bowling woes, they were in dire need of a fast bowler to partner Mohammed Siraj, and it’s no surprise that they went all out for the West Indian did. Joseph has taken 16 wickets this year in his nine T20Is at an average of 21.06 wickets, but in economy he had a rate of 10.36.
