“We know the task at hand”- Payne assures of Super Falcons’ commitment to deliver Olympic ticket

The Super Falcons are the most successful team on the continent, but have not competed in the Olympics since 2008

Super Falcons star Toni Payne declared ahead of Tuesday’s match at Moshood Abiola Stadium that the team is ready to beat Ethiopia, Soccer reported.

Nigeria defeated Ethiopia in a 1-1 draw last week when the two teams met at Addis Ababa’s Abebe Bekira Stadium. But the women will be hoping to do better when they welcome Lucy to the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Sunday.

On paper, coach Randy Waldrum’s women’s team is the absolute favorite because of the qualitative differences between the two sides. And before the match, Nigerian midfielder Paine said his team was determined to win.

“We know it is a challenge to qualify for the next Olympic qualifiers,” Payne told Brila FM.

Nigeria has not participated in the tournament since the 2008 Beijing Games, so it is destined to beat Ethiopia and qualify for the Olympics. A win or a goalless draw would be enough for Nigeria. In case of a 1-1 tie, he will go to a penalty shootout, but in case of a tie with a higher score, the Super Falcons will be eliminated.
