Watch: Test debutant Richa Ghosh ran out the experienced Beth Mooney with some sharp presence of mind from silly point on day three of the only Test match between India and Australia today, December 23.
India started the third day with a lead of 157 and three wickets in hand. She added 30 points to her overnight score to reach 406 for a total lead of 187.
In response, Australia swung their bats from the second innings and got off to a strong start. Beth Mooney strong> in particular seemed to be in great rhythm as his first 36 balls saw him hit seven boundaries and he raced through to 33 balls.
When Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield‘s first partnership was almost 50 years old, the left-handed Mooney lost his brain. In the 12th over, she defended Sune Rana’s overthrown ball. The ball fell in front of her and into the hands of Richa Ghosh, who was standing at a stupid spot.
There was a slight appeal for LBW from the Indian fielders as the ball was close to the pads when it touched the bat. Perhaps distracted by the roll call, Mooney didn’t notice that Ghosh had neatly recovered the ball and wandered aimlessly out of the goal area.
Ghosh, a debutant candidate, hesitated for a moment, considering whether to throw the ball under his armpit or over his arm, but with the latter he released the restraint and caught Mooney well short of the ground.
Rohan Gavaskar, who was broadcasting during his dismissal, said Mooney had no idea where the ball went. I went on a tour…it was very casual. ”
Mooney was also involved in a run in the first innings when Lichfield sacrificed a wicket to protect his senior partner. A few pitches later, she almost got Elise Perry thrown out as well, but she ended up getting thrown out herself in the second inning.
