Watch: Kagiso Rabada bowled a peach of a delivery to get Virat Kohli out on the first day of the Boxing Day Test between South Africa and India in Centurion yesterday (December 26).
South Africa won the toss and opted to play in cloudy weather but were rewarded early on. India lost his three quick wickets, two of them to debutant Nandre Berger.
Virat Kohli andShreyas Iyer formed a 68-run counter partnership for the fourth wicketwith Kagiso Rabada turning heads in the post-lunch session.
Rabada, who has an amazing record at Super Sports Park, dismissed Iyer with an inbound ball in the 27th over. After four overs, he delivered a near-flawless performance, but the well-adjusted Kohli had no answer.
The ball was launched a long distance towards the off-stump, swung late and bounced high off Kohli’s bat before settling into the gloves of wicketkeeper Kyle Bellin. This is his third time Rabada has dismissed Kohli in a Test in South Africa.
Kohli was out for 38 after hitting five boundaries before KL Rahul took over and led India to a competitive score when stumps were called. India ended the day with his 208-8 and Rahul remained unbeaten in his 70 matches.
Rabada won his 14th Test with five wickets and completed his first Test against India, finishing the first day with a record of 17 wins, 3 losses, and 44 minutes and 5 seconds.
