Kohli tried to break out mid-on and cross the ball, but due to his extra bounce and the fact that he did not reach the face of the ball, the ball hit the joint of the bat, sending the ball flying into the air. Only Ben Stokes could meet him. Please pack safely.
In ODI World Cup and T20I World Cup combined, this turned out to be Kohli’s first duck in World Cup history.
India found themselves in further trouble a few overs later when Shreyas Iyer again fell to a short ball and evaded a pull to middle. After 18 overs, India’s score was 67-3.
