Watch: Rohit Sharma Hits Shadab Khan For 26 Runs Off Five Deliveries In Stunning Assault

Watch: Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill put on a fabulous opening partnership against Pakistan in the Asia Cup Super Fours today (September 10), combining for 121 runs in an explosive display.

After being eliminated in the group stage, India vs. Pakistan finally got underway in earnest in Colombo, with India’s opener benefiting from improved conditions. Rohit represented Pakistan in the opening match against Shaheen Shah Afridi. He got through his ball for five dots and then reached the bullseye with a shot off the pad that went over the back square leg boundary and he scored a six.

Gil was right behind him. He was shunned for strikes in his first two overs and only had one ball left, but in the second he hit Shaheen with three-fours. He repeated the feat in Shaheen’s next over, breaking three boundaries, first over Shaheen’s head, then through the center, and finally over cover.

However, when Shadab Khan came on after scoring 69 runs in the powerplay, the run rate actually increased. Rohit hit two consecutive sixes before hitting a four in the last three balls of his first over. He took his two biggest scores over mid-wicket into the stands, then just over the square he cut for four.

The first two balls of Shadab’s next over received the same treatment from Rohit. The first was a full-throttle pitch and a long hit that resulted in six more hits, and the second went over cover for four more hits. Rohit scored 26 runs in his 5 deliveries against Shadab.

With these six balls, Rohit reached his half-century in 42 balls, while Gill had already reached 37 balls. However, the partnership then failed in the second over as Shadab took revenge from Rohit who dropped a catch to Faheem Ashraf. Gill was absent in the next over as well, and this time Shadab became the catcher and Shaheen the bowler. The opening stand saw him take India to 121-0 in 17 overs, including four sixes and 16 fours.
