Watch: Mohammed Shami nicked off Mitchell Marsh in the very first over of the first India-Australia ODI in Mohali to get his side off to a good start today (September 22).
India won the toss and will play Australia in the first match of the three-match ODI series. Ravichandran Ashwin was selected in India’s ODI XI for the first time in over a year and a half strong>, but Mohammed his Siraj was given rest for Shami.
Shami started with the Indian ball and was given the first over by Jasprit Bumrah. The second pitch of the game was brutally deflected by Marsh, making the score 4-0. But Shami had the last laugh as he came back two balls later.
The second slip was taken just before the fourth ball of the first over, and the first slip was moved a little further away. Shami bowled a perfect outswinger at the off stump for a good length. Marsh was caught in the crease and left his bat dangling, only to grab the outside edge, which slipped and hit Shubman Gill, who made no mistake and accepted the easy catch.
Australia then failed to score a no-run in the next three overs with Bumrah complementing Shami at the other end. Shami bowled 4 overs in the 1st over, Shardul in the 9th over He was replaced by Thakur, but in the middle on David he almost caught Warner.
Shami’s record after his debut was 1-16 as Australia finished the first 10 overs with 42-1.
