Watch: R Ashwin picked up his first ODI wicket in 20 months courtesy of a bizarre stumping after the ball hit wicketkeeper KL Rahul’s stumps before it ricocheted onto the stumps against Australia on Friday (September 22).
Marnus Labuschagne was a 39-year-old batter when he tried to hit a reverse sweep off a spinning ball. The ball caught the connection of Rahul’s bat before hitting his pads. The wicketkeeper was unable to hang on to the catch, but when the umpire went up to check the stumps, a strange development resulted in the catch hitting the stumps.
Labuschagne’s boot caught on the line and after several television replays it was confirmed that there was no part inside the crease as the batsman was ruled out.
Ashwin, who last played an ODI match in January 2022, took his first wicket in his comeback match as he looks to qualify for the World Cup.
