Watch: Tom Alsop was stumped when a ball passed between his legs during a County Championship 2024 match yesterday (April 7).
In a rain-affected match at the County Ground in Hove, Nottinghamshire were bowled out for 371 after Sussex captain John Simpson won the toss and opted to field. Captain Luke Procter top-scored for them with 92, while support came from Karun Nair (57) and wicketkeeper Lewis McManus (50). For the hosts, Jayden Seales claimed 4-92.
The left-handed Tom Alsop then walked out at 55-1. He made three before stepping out against off-spinner Rob Keogh, who was bowling from round the wicket.
Watching Alsop leave the crease, Keogh speared the ball into him. Alsop tried to make a last-minute adjustment and place the ball towards the leg-side, but he could not put bat on to ball. McManus, in perfect position, collected the ball and whipped the bail off before Alsop could make his way back.
Sussex soon slipped to 94-3 before Tom Haines (133) and James Coles (78) added 137. Nottinghamshire hit back again to reduce Sussex to 258-6, but Fynn Hudson-Prentice (59 not out) and Danny Lamb (38 not out) hit back, putting on an unbroken stand of 93 in 70 balls.
Sussex will begin the final day on 351-6, twenty runs behind Notts. For the tourists, Saif Zaib has 3-61.
