Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has undergone a successful surgery after missing World Cup 2023 due to a hamstring injury.
Sri Lanka suffered a serious injury ahead of announcing their squad for the 2023 World Cup. The 26-year-old Hasaranga, who was the top wicket-taker in the ICC World Qualifiers in Zimbabwe, was ruled out due to a torn hamstring. He took his 22 wickets and played a key role in his country’s World Cup qualification.

The wrist-spinner was injured before the 2023 Lanka Premier League final, but the injury worsened during his rehabilitation and he was ruled out of the quadrennial competition. In one of his most impactful T20 performances, captain Hasaranga almost single-handedly helped the team win the title for his B-Love Kandy.
Sri Lanka had hoped at the start of their preparations that Hasaranga would be at least fit enough to take part in the competition, but those hopes have now disappeared.
Sri Lanka has suffered several injury scares ahead of the 2023 World Cup, with pacer Dushmanta Chameera also out with a chest injury. However, the island nation regained momentum with the return of Mahish Teekshana, who suffered a hamstring injury during the 2023 Asia Cup. The addition of reinvigorated pacers Dilshan Madhushanka and Lahiru Kumara also strengthened Sri Lanka’s campaign.
