Nigerian international remains one of the most valuable players in Italy’s top flight
According to the latest update from the famous statistics site Transfermarkt, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is worth no more than 110 million euros (approximately 110 billion naira), reports Soccernet.ng.
This figure is down by €10 million (NGN10 billion) from the estimated value of €120 million (NGN120 billion) that Osimhen achieved in March.
At the time, Osimhen scored the goal that gave Napoli their first Scudetto victory in over 30 years and was the most valuable player in Italy, Nigeria, Africa and the top five in the world.
While the Nigerian striker remains the continent’s most valuable footballer, he has been catapulted to the top of Italian football by Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, who is worth an estimated €110 million.
Transfermarkt regional manager Italy Jatin Dietl explained why Osimhen’s value dropped in the same month he was named the winner of the African Player of the Year award.
Dietl admits that Osimhen remains an influential figure for Napoli, but points out that the former Lille player’s battle with injuries has affected his value.
“Osimhen is still suffering from injuries and could not reach the level of last season,” Dietl said.
“He’s been performing, but he hasn’t had as much of an impact on the team as he did during the championship season.”
Osimhen has scored 7 goals and provided 2 assists this season.
The 24-year-old will be a key player for Nigeria as the Super Eagles aim to become African champions for the fourth time at the continental championship in January.
