UEFA Champions League squad: AC Milan include Samuel Chukwueze, leave out AFCON winner

The Nigerian international has made a name for himself in the Europa League with Villarreal and is looking to make an impact alongside the Rossoneri in Europe’s premier club competition.

AC Milan have announced their UEFA Champions League group stage squad for the 2023/24 season, with some notable additions and omissions, reports Soccernet.ng. I’m here.

New Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze, who joined from Villarreal this summer, has done just that.

Cukwueze has already made three appearances in Serie A, helping Milan to a great start to the league season.

In the other end, Algerian midfielder Ismael Bennacer was sidelined. Stefano Pioli’s decision was due to an injury to Bennacer, who is expected to return if Milan advance to the knockout stages.

Luka Romero and Marco Pellegrino are also on the exclusion list. In contrast, Milan have added former Fiorentina strikers Luka Jovic and Yacine Adli to their squad.

UEFA regulations require each club to have at least four homegrown players, and Milan complied with this requirement during the selection process.

As you may recall, Milan reached the semi-finals of the Champions League last season, but ultimately lost to local rivals Inter in the derby della Madonnina.

This time, they face a formidable challenge within a group that includes Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United.

The full Milan squad for the UEFA Champions League:

Maignan, Sportiello, Mirante, Chukwueze, Giroud, Hernandez, Karl, Kjær, Krunic, Leo, Loftus-Cheek, Musa, Okafor, Pulisic, Lijnders, Tiau, Tomori, Caldara, Florenzi, Calabria, Povega, Adli, Jovic
