Nigeria’s Super Eagles face Lesotho in the first leg of their World Cup qualifiers on Thursday and already have a narrow lead
Nigeria’s Group C opponents, Rwanda and Zimbabwe, played out a goalless draw in the first group match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Soccer Net reported.
Nigeria is in Group C of the World Cup qualifiers along with Rwanda, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Lesotho and Benin Republic.
The first match of the group was played on Wednesday when Rwanda hosted Zimbabwe at the Stade Hue Stadium. Rwanda were slight favorites to win because of their home advantage. However, they were unable to capitalize and settled for a scoreless draw.
This puts Nigeria in a good position as they need to win against Lesotho to top the group, but the results of the matches between South Africa and Benin will also be important.
The Super Eagles will take on Lesotho on Wednesday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. He is a big favorite to win because of his pedigree and quality.
Nigeria has scored at least three goals in the last two meetings between the two teams, and Super Eagles fans will expect that again this time.
Nigeria failed to qualify for the Mundial last year. But this time, Jose Peceiro and his sons hope to qualify as soon as possible and secure spots in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
