Former Super Eagles captain Vincent Enyeama has been selected as one of the eminent persons to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Uyo in Akwa Ibom State, Soccernet.ng has reported.
The university plans to bestow this honor on Enyeama at the upcoming 26th, 27th and 28th convocation ceremonies.
Enyeama will receive the award along with former Minister of Defence, Sen. Daisy Theophilus Danjuma’s wife, and former ExxonMobil Vice Chairman Udom Inoyo.
The former Lille star retired from active duty in 2018 and has since invested in private companies.
Enyeama’s extraordinary career as a goalkeeper spanned almost two decades, during which he displayed his talents at various clubs such as Ibom Stars, Enyinba, Iwanyanwu National, Bnei Yehuda, Hapoel Tel Aviv, Lille and Maccabi Tel Aviv .
From 2002 until his retirement in 2015, his notable contributions to the Nigeria national team include helping the Super Eagles win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa . This is the country’s third and most recent continental victory.
Enyeama, who has a staggering 101 caps, held the title of Nigeria’s most capped player until he was overtaken by Ahmed Musa in November 2021.
Enyeama has been recognized for his outstanding shot-stopping skills, composure between the goalposts and full effort throughout his career, including the Marc-Vivien Foet Award in the 2013-2014 season and the Goalkeeping Award. won the award.
