Shakib Al Hasan Ruled Out Of Bangladesh’s Last World Cup Game With Broken Finger

Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of the 2023 World Cup with a broken finger which he sustained while batting during the clash with Sri Lanka on November 6 (Monday).

It was learned that Shakib was hit by a ball on the finger of his left hand in the bottom of the 82nd innings of the game against Sri Lanka in Delhi, but continued to bat. Post-match X-rays confirmed the fracture, and he was ruled out of Bangladesh’s final World Cup match against Australia on November 11.

“Shakib was hit on the index finger of his left hand early in the innings, but continued to bat using supplementary tape and painkillers. After the match, he underwent an emergency X-ray in Delhi, which revealed that his left PIP joint A fracture has been confirmed,” national team physio Baijedul Islam Khan said.

“Recovery is estimated to take three to four weeks. He is scheduled to leave for Bangladesh today to begin rehabilitation,” he added.

Bangladesh’s captain found himself in controversy against Sri Lanka when he became the first captain to send off a batsman for a ‘time-out’. During the 25th over of Sri Lanka’s innings, Angelo Matthews was reportedly reluctant to bowl the first ball within the stipulated two minutes because his helmet strap snapped while taking over guard.

Matthews immediately signaled his replacement to his substitute fielder, after which Shakib’s Bangladesh called for a ‘timeout’. When the captain refused to withdraw his appeal, the field umpire referred the decision to the third umpire, and Matthews was ultimately ruled out, much to the chagrin of the batsmen.

Shakib, who came to bat at number four in the 280-run run chase, scored a crucial 65-ball 82 with the help of two sixes and 12 fours and won the Player of the Match award. He along with Najmul Hossain Shanto increased the team score from 41 to 210 before being sent off by Matthews. The Sri Lankan all-rounder bid Shakib farewell, looked at his watch as he left and mentioned his dismissal for a “timeout” at the start of the match.

Bangladesh have been eliminated from the World Cup and are currently seventh in the standings, but they hope to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy as the top seven teams qualify for the tournament along with hosts Pakistan. You can get it.
