Ravinda Jadeja Denied Wicket Due To DRS Unavailability

Ravinda Jadeja was denied David Miller‘s wicket as DRS was unavailable for a brief period during South Africa’s run-chase against India in the third T20I In Johannesburg today (December 14).

When Jadeja was bowling in the ninth over of his innings, Miller grabbed a strong outside edge while trying to field a long ball just outside the stumps. Jitesh Sharma caught a sharp catch behind the stumps and immediately went to appeal along with Jadeja.

However, on-field referee Bongani Jere was unfazed. Jadeja, who also served as stand-in captain after Suryakumar Yadav left the field with an ankle injury, thought of going for a review but could not as DRS was temporarily unavailable.

DRS was not available at the start of the 8th over, probably due to technical issues, but it was used again at the end of Jadeja’s over, much to India’s disappointment.

Fortunately for India, no major damage was caused as the wickets continued to fall at the other end. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Donovan Ferreira in the next over and Jadeja caught and bowled Andile Phelukwayo in the 11th over to leave South Africa reeling at 82-6.

Kuldeep then finished at the bottom with 5 wins and 17 losses, his best performance in T20Is, as India won the match by a huge margin of 106 runs.

Early in the game, India put 201 on the board after being asked to bat first. Shubman Gill made yet another mistake with the bat and was limited to scoring only 8 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a half-century while captain Suryakumar Yadav scored his record-breaking fourth T20I ton in just 57 innings.

The series is tied 1-1 as the first T20I is abandoned and the focus shifts to the ODIs from December 17 as the second T20I heads to South Africa.
