Pirelli says there will be no new compound for F1 teams to test their existing tires in 2024 as the C0 compound will no longer be used.
Ahead of the 2023 F1 season, Pirelli has introduced the C0 compound, which will become the 2022 C1 tire. They tried to close the gap between C1 and C2 in 2022. But interestingly, CO2 tires will never be used in his 2023, and will be phased out for 2024.
And in the 2024 F1 season, there will still be five connections: C1, C2, C3, C4, and C5. Additionally, the new tires used by Pirelli at Silverstone will be introduced next year, with the same tires expected to continue in 2024.
Pirelli conducted tests in Japan and Mexico using revised versions of the C2 and C4 compounds respectively, but as they use the same tires for the 2023-2024 F1 season, the results seems to have been unsatisfactory.
F1 teams will therefore use a certain number of tires in a one-day test after the Abu Dhabi GP weekend on Tuesday, which can be seen as early preparations for the 2024 F1 season. “As usual, there will be a test day on the Tuesday after the Grand Prix, and each team will field two cars, one for the young drivers and the other, in theory, for tire testing. ” said Pirelli F1 boss Mario Isola. /p>
“But there are no new compounds to try. The FIA recently announced that the 2024 compounds will be the same as this year. The only change is that there will be five different compounds.” and remove C0 (which was never used during this year’s race weekend).
“So this test could help teams collect data and work on tire management for next season.” For the test, teams will be required to use pre-determined tire allocations. receive. The tire work vehicle had 10 sets available during the test, consisting of 1 set of C1, 1 set of C2, 2 sets of C5, and 3 sets each of C4 and C3. This young car is currently available in two sets of C3 and C5, and four sets of C4. ”
During the Abu Dhabi GP weekend, nine F1 teams will use FP1 for the mandatory rookie driver test. Red Bull will fill both cars with young drivers, while other teams will reserve spots. Only AlphaTauri will allow both regulars to drive in FP1.
