Peter Etebo: Greece’s Panaitolikos face Bulgarian opposition in race for Super Eagles midfielder

Nigerian players are free agents and can move to any club of their choice outside the official transfer window

Super Eagles midfielder Peter Oghenekaro Etebo has emerged as a transfer target for Greek club PAE Panaitlikos, Soccernet.ng reports.

Etebo are currently without a club after parting ways with Stoke City in the summer.

The Nigerian midfielder spent the entire 2022-2023 season on loan at Aris Saloniki, making 28 appearances.

Etebo’s name recently came up in transfer talks with Gaziantep, who have welcomed former Aris teammate Cameroonian defender Nicolas Nkul into their squad.

However, according to information from SDNA, Etebo was not going to Turkey, but was about to join Panitlikos.

Negotiations are progressing with the Agrinio-based side, who appear keen to strengthen their midfield, and looked promising until an unexpected development occurred.

According to Agriniala, an unknown Bulgarian club unexpectedly stepped in and ruined Panaitlikos’ chances of signing Etebo.

The Bulgarian club appears to be gaining popularity in the eyes of the Nigerian midfielder, bringing an element of uncertainty to the transfer saga.

The situation remains uncertain as Etebo considers its options.

Etebo is one of Nigeria’s most experienced midfielders and has emerged as a prospect for Warri Wolves in the Nigerian League.

The 27-year-old arrived in Europe in 2016 after signing with Portuguese club Feirense. He has since played for clubs in Spain, Turkey, England and Greece.
