Wahab Riaz has been named as the new chief selector of the Pakistan men’s side by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the latest in a series of changes after the team’s World Cup 2023 exit.
Wahhab’s appointment follows the resignation of former chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq over allegations of conflict of interest and Pakistan’s withdrawal from the 2023 World Cup after the team failed to reach the semi-finals. I was disappointed.
Wahab ended his international career in August 2023 but has not yet retired from franchise cricket. A red-ball tour of Australia starting in December followed by five T20Is in New Zealand will be his first outing in his new role.
In a video message on PCB’s social media accounts, Wahab thanked the organization for the opportunity and listed his priorities for the future. “The [PCB’s] decision to involve former players in cricket matters is commendable. I am prepared to do so” to improve Pakistan cricket.
“Leading the selection committee is a difficult job. We have an important tour of Australia coming up as part of the 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship cycle, as well as a T20I series against New Zealand. , will be able to put together an impressive session for the ICC T20 World Cup in the US and Western countries next June.”

Wahhabs is the latest in a series of senior leadership changes in Pakistan cricket, with Babar Azam stepping down as captain and Mickey Arthur stepping down as director of cricket. Shan Masood and Shaheen Shah Afridi have been appointed as Test and T20I captains respectively, while Mohammad Hafeez has been appointed as the new men’s team director. “I have a good relationship with Pakistan Men’s Team Director Mohammad Hafeez and we will work closely together for the success of Pakistan cricket,” Wahab said. “My main objective is to recognize the top performers in domestic cricket and present a versatile team with the necessary skills. I am always available to provide feedback and advice to the players.”< /p>
