Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri has explained that he needs to discuss during training whether Osimhen will be available for this weekend’s Serie A match against Genoa, Soccernet.ng reports. Ta.
Osimhen returned to Napoli late after a successful spell with Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria ultimately finished runners-up after a tough defeat to Ivory Coast.
The former Lille star was due to return to Napoli on Thursday morning, but missed his flight and ended up returning to Italy on Thursday night.
The 25-year-old striker is scheduled to return to training on Friday ahead of Saturday’s match between Napoli and Genoa. Before the match, Napoli coach Mazzarri said he did not know whether Osimhen would be available.
“I’ll talk to him as soon as he comes to training this afternoon to see how he’s doing and if he’s available for the game. I have doubts about this, because it was torn,” Mazzarri said, according to newspaper Pazzi di Fanta.
Osimhen will need to be examined by the Naples medical team to determine his health status. If this continues, there is a high possibility that he will start on the bench. Still, he should have no problem playing for Napoli in his UEFA Champions League next week.
