McLaren has completed private testing with Oscar Piastri and Ryo Hirakawa at Paul Ricard in preparation for the 2024 F1 season.
As the 2024 F1 season approaches, teams are in preparation mode for private tests. Ferrari is preparing at the same time as testing its Pirelli tires, while Mercedes and Aston Martin will also carry out shakedowns on launch day.
Even Hearth faces challenges at Silverstone. McLaren also joined their fray, with Piastri and Hirakawa driving the MCL36 at Paul Ricard over the weekend. This is the Japanese driver’s second time in a Formula 1 car since his debut in Barcelona.
“I watched F1 when I was 13 years old and I never thought something like this would happen to me. So I was really surprised, but I was very lucky to be signed as a reserve driver. “I did,” Hirakawa said at the time. “The day before I drove the car I was thinking about the test and thought I would be emotional on the first lap, but that wasn’t the case because I was overwhelmed by the power and downforce.
“I started the day without any prior knowledge and was overwhelmed at first, but I got used to the power and downforce. The team worked hard for me and in the end… I was able to get a decent lap time, so I’m pretty satisfied.I felt satisfied. It was a very comfortable car and I enjoyed it all day.The time flew by and the day was over. I was sad to see it go, but it was a lot of fun to drive, so I’m honored.”
