Mayank Agarwal To Be Discharged After Staying Overnight In Hospital Following Mid-Flight Medical Emergency

Karnataka captain Mayank Agarwal is expected to be discharged from a hospital in Agartala on Wednesday evening, January 31. The right-handed batsman suffered an emergency during the flight and was hospitalized on Tuesday.

He and his Karnataka teammates were boarding a flight from Agartala to Delhi and the incident occurred just before the plane took off. Mayank Agarwal felt a burning sensation in his throat and mouth after drinking liquid from a bottle placed on his seat. His lip was swollen and he also vomited before he was removed from the plane and taken to ILS Hospital.

Fortunately, his vital signs remained stable throughout. Mayank Agarwal was hospitalized overnight and is expected to be discharged on Wednesday evening. According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, he will be given an injection to keep him pain-free until he returns to Bangalore for further treatment. The report further states that the batsman will have to be admitted to the hospital for at least two days.

After the unfortunate incident, Mayank Agarwal also filed a formal police report through his boss. According to reports, the disgraced Indian batsman sensed foul play and decided to report it to the police for further investigation.

“While I was sitting on the plane, I noticed a bag in front of me and mistook it for water and drank it,” K Kiran Kumar (SP, West Tripura) told PTI on Tuesday told. “His mouth had swelling and ulceration. His condition is normal and his vital signs are stable. His supervisor has lodged a complaint. We have registered a complaint. We will investigate the issue.”

Meanwhile, Mayank Agarwal will also miss his team’s match against Railways in Surat, which was scheduled to begin on Friday (February 2). In his absence, 23-year-old Nikin Jose will lead the team. Karnataka has 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss in Ranji Trophy 2024 so far and he is second in Group C.

Mayank Agarwal is running a good campaign so far. He started the season with two ducks against Punjab and then bounced back in style, scoring knocks of 109, 19, 114, 51 and 17.
