Karachi Kings have traded in their trophy-winning captain Imad Wasim for Islamabad United’s Hasan Ali in a huge move ahead of the 2024 Pakistan Super League.
This exchange will take place in the draft of the next tournament, where Imad will be traded in the platinum category and acquired by Islamabad United. Hasan Ali was then transferred to Karachi Kings in the diamond category, and the exchange resulted in the Kings receiving a first-round silver pick from Islamabad United in exchange for a second-round silver pick.
Imad captained Karachi Kings in five of the last six PSL seasons, including last season. He led the team to its first title in 2020, and the team has been fighting for a silver medal ever since. The franchise he finished outside of the playoffs in the past two editions of the tournament.
However, Imad put in a strong individual performance in this year’s tournament, averaging 134.66 points in 10 games, putting him in the top five in the scoring rankings for a lower order batsman. He also took nine wickets in the 2023 tournament. The first team Imad will play in the PSL will be Islamabad United alongside Karachi Kings.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Imad wrote: “It’s time for a new chapter. I’m really looking forward to joining my hometown club, Islamabad United. It’s a great franchise with great people. Islamabad United, Shadab Khan, Ali Naqvi I will do my best to repay the trust you have shown me. I will work to further strengthen last season’s Player of the Tournament and help the team win the Cup.”

The news comes less than a week after Imad announced his retirement from international cricket after the 2023 World Cup.
Ali joined Islamabad United in 2021 after representing Peshawar Zalmi since 2016. With 13 his wickets, at an average of 22.84, he was in the top 10 of wicket takers for his 2023 tournament.
