Kane Williamson emulated and rewrote several world records as New Zealand beat South Africa in a Test series for the first time.
New Zealand won the first Test of back-to-back matches at Mt Maunganui, but South Africa’s second division side hit back in Hamilton. The team scored 242 points before Dane Peat (5-89) limited the hosts to 211 points, setting a goal of a game-high 267 points with David Bendingham’s 110 points. was completed.
Pete (3-93) reduced New Zealand to 117-3, but Kane Williamson (133 not out), along with Will Young (60 not out), helped the home side survive. This was the first time New Zealand had beaten South Africa in a men’s Test series in 18 tries, eight of which were in South Africa.
Williamson had already won the most Tests for New Zealand, but this score, his 32nd, moved him level with Steve Waugh and Steve Smith. He currently ranks 11th on the all-time list. Williamson has pitched his 172 innings and holds the record for fastest innings to 32 in a Test. He broke Smith’s record of 174 innings.
This century was his fifth in four innings andfirst ever joint hit, a record he currently shares with Younis Khan. However, Williamson struck out only 26 times in four at-bats, significantly less than Younis’ 40. All four of Williamson’s .500s were undefeated. Ricky Ponting and Graham Smith each have three, but no one else has four.

Since the pandemic, Williamson has scored 2,190 runs in 32 innings at 78.21 and 1100 runs. Root is the only player to hit several hundred more (13) during this period, but he has had 82 at-bats. Williamson’s average is also the highest at the 300-run cutoff.
Williamson’s numbers on this subject make this sentence even more ridiculous. His 1,521 runs were 117 and he hit 900 in 15 innings. In fact, his home average of 69.70 at the 3,000-run cut-off is only second to Don Bradman’s 98.22.
Williamson currently has streaks of 132, 1, 121*, 215, 104, 11, 13, 11, 118, 109, 43, 133*. So in his last 12 innings he’s 700. The only cricketer to surpass this mark was Bradman, who played 12 innings and eight centuries on both sides of World War II.
One of the men who surpassed Williamson’s heroics and won the Player of the Match award was William O’Rourke, who took 9 wickets in the Test match, winning with 5-34 and 4-59.
