Paul Onuachu joined Trabzonspor on loan from Southampton in the just-ended summer transfer window.
Turkey coach Fuat Kapa has recommended Nigeria’s Paul Onuachu to score at least 20 goals in this season’s Super Lig, Soccernet.ng reported.
The Super Eagles striker recently joined Trabzonspor on loan from Southampton and quickly ended an 11-game goal drought with two goals in his first two games with his new club.
Capa, who previously coached Antarespor, revealed that given Onuachu’s strong start, he is confident that Onuachu will reach 20 goals this season, although he cannot guarantee he will score 50 goals.
Onuachu made a strong debut for Nenad Bjelica’s side, scoring the opening goal against Besiktas and scoring his first goal in the 29th minute.
Capa, 55, watched both Onuachas’ matches and admitted he was impressed with his performance.
“He got off to a perfect start there. I watched both of his games. On his home debut against Besiktas he scored his first goal with a header. Against Hatayspor he scored his first goal with a header. I scored again and also made an assist,” he said, as quoted by Voetbalkrant.
Onuachu only played 47 and 65 minutes respectively in his first two games on loan from Southampton as he was unfit for the match. Capa believes the Nigerian striker can perform even better with more playing time.
He added: “You can tell he hasn’t played much since January. He’s not fit enough and can’t play 90 minutes yet. He started having symptoms in the last two weeks, but every time… It needed to be replaced.”
Capa, who is an experienced coach in the Turkish league, believes that Onuaçu is suitable for the Turkish league and has the potential to score quite a few goals.
“Everyone knows that he is a good striker and has strong statistics. I dare not predict that he will score 50 goals. But I think that he will score 20 goals. I’ve seen him score twice. Onuaçu fits well in the Turkish league.”
Trabzonspor are currently in seventh place in the league, nine points behind leaders Fenerbahce. They will look to close the gap in the league standings in this weekend’s game against Pendikspor at Papara Park.
