India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has admitted that he was scared of having his right leg amputated after the tragic road accident he survived 13 months ago. The 26-year-old was on his way from Delhi to his hometown Roorkee to greet his family when his car crashed into a road median.

Rishabh Pant was involved in a car accident that left him with near-fatal injuries and his car burst into flames and was destroyed. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman had abrasions on his back, ligament damage in his right knee and a bruise on his forehead. Despite making great progress after undergoing multiple surgeries, Rishabh Pant has not been able to return to competitive cricket and he will likely be playing in a cash-rich league in 2024.

Rishabh Pant is currently recovering and said that although the rehabilitation process was long and unpleasant, he managed to get through it. He also revealed that doctors have told him it will take him 16 to 18 months to fully recover from his injuries.

But you said you can give me the most clarity on this. He (the doctor) said it would take 16 to 18 months. I told the doctor that he would shorten the period you indicated by 6 months. I have told them that I will do it,” Rishabh Pant added.

The left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman is currently expected to make a comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 after missing all major cricket events including IPL 2023, Asia Cup and ODI World Cup. Rishabh Pant has been named as one of the players for next season by Delhi Capitals and is expected to captain the team.
