IPL 2024 auction: Rules and format

A total of 77 slots are scheduled to be filled in the 2024 auction, including 30 slots for foreigners.

The shortlisted cricketers will be divided into three categories: Indian International Players, Uncapped Indian Players and Overseas Players. They are again divided according to their roles: batsmen, bowlers, all-rounders and wicketkeepers.

Since it is a mini-auction, most teams keep their core. The cash limit for the franchise has been increased from Rs 950 million last year to Rs 100 million this year.

Teams can bid on players by raising their paddles after the auctioneer announces their names. Each increase increases the player’s winnings by a certain amount. For example, his salary increases by 20 million rupees until the bid amount reaches 1 million rupees. Above 1 million rupees, each increment increases by 25 million rupees, and above 20 million rupees, the additional amount is 50 million rupees.

Each player has a base price below which they cannot sell. Each team then bids until all rosters are filled. The highest price range is 2 million rupees for him and the lowest is 20 million rupees for him.
