All four ICC full member countries India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have qualified directly for the quarter-finals of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games (2023). Afghanistan did not send a team.
India posted a record of 173-2 in 15 overs against Malaysia. Chasing 177, Malaysia was 1-0 after her two balls, but the rain eventually stopped and India qualified through improved seeding.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, held Thailand to 78-7 in 15 overs, chasing the target with eight wickets in hand and 10.5 overs to play. Bangladesh and Pakistan advanced to the semi-finals without playing as their games against Hong Kong and Indonesia were eliminated.
India defeated Bangladesh for 51 in the semi-final, winning in 8.2 overs. In the other semi-final, Pakistan outscored her 75-9 and Sri Lanka won in her 16.3 overs.
Bangladesh ultimately won the bronze medal. They restricted Pakistan to nine for her 64, winning by five wickets and a hand of 10 balls.
This is the first time that India will participate in the Asian Games. After a two-match suspension, Harmanpreet Kaur will once again take the lead in the gold medal match. Sri Lanka are the only team to have played two complete knockouts of his matches and are led by Chamaria Thapattu.
