IND A v Eng Lions, 3rd Test, Day 1: Carse And Potts Tear Apart India A Before England Lay Platform

England Lions claimed the advantage on the first day of the third unofficial Test against India A thanks to three Durham players.

Matthew Potts and Brydon Kearse shared 10 wickets before opener Alex Lees hit back to end the second day with a half-century to spare.

Potts enjoyed a wonderful trip to India. He is now just over 14 years old and has taken 18 wickets, with his 6-57 today (February 1) being his best performance to date. He claimed his first four wickets to fall, dismissed all the top five wickets, and then helped Kearse sweep the bottom order.

Potts is currently not in the England squad after impressing in the first summer of 2022. That season, at the age of 28, he took 20 wickets and was named Wisden Cricketer of the Year, but with the return of Mark Wood, Ollie Robinson and Chris Woakes he was the only Test player to play. He only played once, and his playing time was limited due to poor conditions. p>

Two batsmen of India A scored runs. Devdutt Padikkal scored 65 before being bowled by Potts and Saransh Jain scored 64 before dismissing Khars. They won India A with 5 for 152, but were then bowled out for 192.

Leeds then led the response, with the England Lions eschewing the aggressiveness they had previously favored on tour. After Keaton Jennings was bowled out by Akash for 17 in the deep, Leeds and Ollie Price added 71 to put the team on the back foot, with the run rate well below three runs per over.

After dominating the first three days, England Lions were held back by a century by KS Bharat in the opener, but took a big lead in the second match as India A secured an innings victory I couldn’t. With a difference of less than 100 and nine wickets in hand, they have high hopes of securing a series-level win in Ahmedabad.
