Sri Lanka spinner Mahesh Teekshana has slammed defending champions England, saying the defending champions underestimated the team’s abilities at the World Cup. Jos Buttler’s side lost easily by eight wickets and lost their chance to progress to the main event semi-finals.
England’s batting performance slumped again in the main match as they were dismissed cheaply for 156 runs in 33.2 overs. Speaking to the media after the match, Mahesh Teekshana believes that the England team underestimated the Sri Lankan team during the match and was satisfied with the team’s bowling performance against the defending champions. He praised the fast bowlers who worked hard and executed their plans against England’s powerful batting line-up in theWorld Cup.
“I think they underestimated our team because we also lost three games and we only won against the Netherlands. That’s why the result went our way because we backed our strength. We went in with a simple plan, so that’s why we won the game today,” Maheesh Theekshana said.
“In the first four matches, we didn’t bowl well in the middle overs. I think we lost three matches because of our bowling. So we tried to be more disciplined. We have had some training sessions. All the fast bowlers work hard before the match and know what they have to do in (today’s) match,” Mahesh Teekshana said. Ta.
