The Israeli manager led Chelsea to the UEFA Champions League final, but Mikel felt he was not a good manager
Former Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi has revealed that former Chelsea manager Abram Grant knew nothing about tactics during his time at the club, reports Soccer.
Chelsea has had various coaches since former owner Roman Abramovich was appointed in June 2003. One of his under different Chelsea managers was Grant.
The Israeli manager replaced Jose Mourinho as caretaker manager of the Blues in the 2007/2008 season and had a successful run, helping the club reach the Champions League and League Cup finals. Chelsea also tried hard to win the title, but ultimately lost to Manchester United.
Despite his good performance, Mikel believes that Grant knew nothing about tactics.
“For me he (Abram Grant) was more than just a manager,” Mikel told former teammate Florent Malouda on the Obi Wan Podcast.
“He was not a manager because he had no idea what he was doing. He had no idea
“He had people to train, people to train, and all he would do is come in and talk about Michael Jordan and some fire burning somewhere. All you have to do is tell us.”
“But it worked out for him because he led us to the Champions League final.”
Unfortunately for Grant, he was fired at the end of the season after a trophyless season. That was not surprising at the time, as Abrahimović was results-oriented at the time.
