Former West Ham United and Fenerbahçe star condemns Lagos State’s building demolitions

Former Super Eagles star Emmanuel Emenike has criticized the recent bulldozing attack by the Lagos State government that left scores of residents stranded in the state, Soccernet.ng reported.

Lagos State Government last week began demolishing illegal structures built along canals and waterways in certain areas, including Gedegede – Mobile Road – Megamound Estate – Ikota Drainage Channel.

The Ministry of Environment and Water Resources justified the need for the demolition based on the importance of preventing future erosion and flooding.

The operation, which involved the demolition of several properties worth millions of naira, was carried out under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources.

In response, Mr. Emenike shared heartbreaking images of the shipwreck on his Instagram story, expressing deep sympathy for the loss of those affected.

He claimed that the affected parties had initially obtained approval from the Lagos State Government, which made the subsequent demolition even more alarming.

Mr Emenike condemned the government’s actions in sharp words, calling it a display of pure malice.

He expressed concern to his colleagues in the Igbo community, highlighting Abia, Imo, Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi in particular as safe havens and repatriation of investments for the security of their eastern roots. advised to consider.

He wrote in his post: “The sadness is too great despite having the approval of the same Lagos State government. This is pure malice.

“Igbo people are in trouble. Take your investment home. We have Abia, Imo, Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi states.”

Emenike’s career

Emenike grew up playing for Asaba-based football team Delta Force, before moving to South Africa and playing in Cape Town with MP Black Aces.

The dynamic striker moved to Turkey in 2019, signing with Karabükspor and then Fenerbahce. He joined Spartak, where he moved on loan to Moscow for two years, and in 42 league matches he scored 21 goals.

He returned to Fenerbahce in 2013 and led the club to victory in the Super Lig and Turkish Super Cup the following year.

Emenike went on to wear the shirts of Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates, West Ham United in the English Premier League, and Greek club Olympiacos until his retirement.

On the international stage, Emenike is a powerful striker who made his debut with the Super Eagles in 2011 and scored nine goals in 37 appearances over four years.

Four of these goals came at the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa, where he was named the tournament’s top scorer and helped Nigeria win the cup for the third time in its history .
