Former South Africa captain Dean Elgar has announced his retirement from international cricket after the two-match Test series against India. The left-handed opener played in 84 Tests and his eight one-day internationals for South Africa over his 12-year career.
The 36-year-old has consistently performed well for his team in longer match formats over the years. Following the resignation of Quinton de Kock, Dean Elgar was appointed full-time Test captain. In June 2021, he captained the team against West Indies.

In a statement issued, Dean Elgar said he was grateful for the opportunity to serve his country over the past 12 years and said the home series against India would be his last in South African colours. He said it would be a match. He hopes to end his Test career in Cape Town on a high note.

Dean Elgar has scored over 5,000 runs at an average of 37.28 since his Test debut against Australia in 2012, including 1300 and a career-best 199 against Bangladesh in 2017. Also includes orchids.
