Daniil Medvedev recruits ‘very smart’ former top 10 player to coaching setup

Daniil Medvedev has announced that Gilles Simon will be part of his coaching team, with the former world No. 6 filling in for the absence of head coach and fellow French player Gilles Cervara.

Medvedev is scheduled to return to action next week to defend his title at the Dubai Tennis Championships, Russia’s first tournament since losing by two sets to Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open final.

The former number one is currently in his eighth year at Chervara, but the 43-year-old will travel less frequently with Medvedev this year.

And here comes Simon. Simon, who has won the ATP title his 14th time, hopes to continue his career in tennis after retiring as a player at his Masters in Paris in 2022.

Recent reports suggest that Simon will join Medvedev in Dubai next week and at the Madrid and Paris Masters later this year.

Medvedev revealed that Simon’s addition will also help his development. “He is a valuable asset to the team. He will help us move forward, win titles and help me become a better player.”

28 years old: “We’ll see how it goes. So far it’s going well. I hope it stays this way for a long time, but it depends on many factors. How much time he spends Let’s see. Gil Cervara will definitely spend more time with me than Gil Simon. That’s how it works, because that’s how it was. Let’s see what happens next and how many weeks he will be with us.

“Gills Simon is a very smart player and I hope he can help me improve my game, especially the parts of my game that are not the best. So far, things are going well. /p>

Medvedev actually lost a duel to new coach Simon, with the Frenchman winning three of their four encounters on the ATP Tour.

In the baseline…

The last month must have been a difficult one for Daniil Medvedev. He is the only person in history to lose twice in a Grand Slam final with two sets remaining. But adding a new face to the team could provide a fresh perspective and help world No. 4 Medvedev have a better season than the one he had in 2022, when he lost to Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open final It would be. em>p>
