Carlos Alcaraz ‘is pretty unbelievable’ claims Daniil Medvedev
Carlos Alcaraz was showered with praise by Daniil Medvedev, who told how he first noticed the Spaniard’s talent.
Alcaraz won the 2022 U.S. Open, making him the youngest player in history to be ranked No. 1 in the world. Medvedev suggested that his 20-year-old player is a product of his own decline in the eyes of critics.
“He was crazy from the beginning at that age,” Medvedev told Eurosport exclusively. “Youngest number one in world history, this says it all.
“So, especially now that he’s losing a little bit more games than he used to, people are saying, ‘Oh, maybe he’s losing a little bit of confidence.’ .”
The Russian added: “He’s only 20 years old, so young, so it’s normal for him to go through ups and downs from time to time in his career. But the talent he has is pretty amazing. As soon as he comes on tour I understand.”

Medvedev went on to talk about when he first learned about Alcaraz, when the two-time major winner was training with world No. 5 Andrei Rublev.
“I remember he was close to the top 100 and he could have played against Rublev,” Medvedev said. “Andrei is one of the hardest hitters in tennis. And I think Carlos was 17 at the time. And I looked and thought, ‘Wow, he’s a stronger hitter than Andrei.’ This guy It has good potential.”
Medvedev continued: “So it’s going to be interesting to see how he deals with everything that comes with playing good tennis, lots of sponsors, lots of interest, etc.
“Some people take it easy, others are under pressure and deal with it in a different way. I think he’s too young to draw conclusions, so we’ll see what happens next.”
While Medvedev is expected to withdraw from play in Doha next week and return to defend his title in Dubai, Alcaraz will continue to focus on his South American clay court swing in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro.

In the baseline…
Daniil Medvedev has some very good things to say about Carlos Alcaraz, who is going through a relatively mediocre phase in his great career so far. After all, Alcaraz is also just a human, and things aren’t always easy for him. And the Spaniard delivered his best performance ever at this year’s Australian Open.
