Brydon Carse has been named as the replacement for Reece Topley in England’s World Cup squad.
Reece Topley injures his finger while bowling during the fourth match of the 2023 World Cup between England and South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on October 21 >I did.
He had to leave the field for a while before returning to bowling for a few more overs. However, it was announced after the match that Topley had been ruled out of the remaining World Cup matches as he was clearly unwell.
Several names were floated as potential replacements for Topley, but the England think tank settled on right wing seamer Brydon Kearse.
South African-born Kearse, 28, made his ODI debut against Pakistan two years ago in July 2021. Since then, he has played in his 12 ODIs for England, taking his 14 wickets at an average of 33.92. Kearse recently made his T20I debut and made his first appearance for England in his shortest format in August this year, posting scores of 3-23.
There have been calls within the English cricket community for Kearse to be included in the original 15-man squad, including from former fast bowler Steve Harmison. Left arm seamer. Although his call-up was an unfortunate turn of events, this is a huge opportunity for Kearse and one he intends to seize with both hands.
Kearse’s selection has been approved by the World Cup’s Event Technical Committee, which is a requirement for a player to officially join the team.
England have not had a good start to the tournament, losing three of their first four games and could face an early exit in the semi-final qualification race.
The next match will be against Sri Lanka on October 26 in Bangalore. They will hope that Karth’s participation will bring about a change in their fortunes.
