Bayer details on Visa Cash App RB name; Mekies adds on UK HQ

Peter Bayer details the meaning of the Visa Cash App RB name and ‘Racing Bulls’, and Laurent Mekies changes the basics.

One of the big winter news from Red Bull was the transfer of their Faenza-based sister F1 team from AlphaTauri to Visa Cash App RB. After several years as Toro Rosso’s AlphaTauri, it was once again due for a name change.

Several names were suggested, and it was finally called Visa Cash App RB. Here, Visa and Cash App are two different sponsors, but RB refers to “Racing Bulls”, the company name created under the Italian license. p >

There was confusion about the abbreviation RB, with many mistaking it for Red Bull, but team principal Beyer clarified that it was Racing Bulls and explained why he chose it. did. It’s fine if the team is simply called “RB”, but it may also be called “VCARB” if the main name is too big.

Beyer explained the name change and the origin of the name, and answered questions from fans and media. He also believes it comes from the name “Flying Bulls” used by Dietrich Mateschitz during his time at Red Bull.

Bayer continues to talk about new identity and launch event in Las Vegas, team boss Mekies confirms Bicester base will close, team will move to Milton Keynes and establish UK headquarters next to main factory in Faenza He said it was planned. .

Rebranding, Namenssache –

Bayer: “As far as rebranding the team, I think it was a complex task that involved a lot of parties. But in the end, we’re very happy because… Because we had a great issue with Visa and Cash App and Red Bull supporting us and saying they want to take this team to the next level, and they’re accompanying us on this journey. That’s part of why the name seems a little long. But at the same time, it’s reality. It’s Visa, it’s Cash App, it’s the Italian company that supports us as Racing Bulls. There’s Red Bull. What we saw from the fans was that even though there was some confusion, they recognized it right away. A lot of people, especially young people, call us Visa Cash App RB, and it’s very simple. It says VCARB on the outside and has the company name Racing Bulls. I think we’ll just focus on the car for now and see what the name ends up being. ”

Red Bull, Racing Bulls-Gene –

Beyer: “Looking back at history, the name Racing Bulls is actually part of Red Bull’s philosophy. They have the Flying Bulls, and Mateschitz And it seems like the logical conclusion. Racing Bulls is the name of the company in Italy. We discussed various options, but we felt it was a bit of a stretch. If you imagine a Visa Cash App Racing Bulls Formula 1 team, you’ll be exhausted by the time you finish writing this article. This is actually where the idea to abbreviate Racing Bulls as RB came from. And having it as the chassis name is just keeping it as a kind of historical element that we want to continue even as the partnership changes. If you have children, you may have had trouble deciding on a name for your child. Then a lot of people will say, “Oh my god, how did you come up with that name?” and others will say, “That’s a great name!” That’s something we really want to try. Challenge.

I think we are realistic enough to not expect the media to keep saying “Visa Cash App RB.” But it’s also an opportunity to open up as a team and try to bring these partners on board. And I think that makes up the total package, especially when they look at the car on the track, when they look at the paint, when they look at the presentation. We need sponsors for this to work, because that’s also reality. We have shareholder support and we also get money from F1. But reaching the ceiling is not enough; ultimately, the ceiling defines the competition. How can we bridge this gap? Well, we have to sell our inventory. And we don’t think that’s a bad thing. I know it can be controversial, as it’s obviously easier to be a Ferrari than an RB, but in the medium term I believe that the elements of RB Racing Bull are effective. It is strong enough to handle the integration of powerful commercial partners.

“Probably one of the main discussions we had with our partners was that we believe there is a small niche in the paddock, which is aiming at that whole new audience, which we are reaching out to through social media, and which is a younger audience. And so we believe that by adding what probably is that original Red Bull spirit, reinforcing that in this team, adding a bit of music – and if you look at the car launch, I think that that’s a bit of an example of what we think the storytelling of this team will look like. It’s about racing, obviously, and we want to be very serious and focus on the racing. But at the same time, we want this team to have some entertainment, we want to democratise the sport through the partnerships by inviting fans who cannot come to the race track, because maybe it’s not affordable or it’s sold out. To add events in the city centre, for example, we’re having a couple of ideas for the US events which will again feature big music acts. So that combination of on-track performance combined with off-track entertainment and that Red Bull spirit is what we want to give to the fans.”

Judgment from fans and media –

Bayer: “I think we have a certain responsibility because a lot of things were delayed, and it was a huge effort to get everything signed and ready. And I’m talking about team equipment and sponsorship deals and all the little things that go along with that. So, for example, I think we’ve learned a lot in terms of the communications aspect of launches. I think it should have been done, and I’m happy to work on it. I have to say that the launch of the car was a great experience. And I think it was a little bit similar to what I saw as a fan 20 years ago. It was a big event in the middle of Las Vegas, the Super Bowl, NFL players, NFL TV, everyone was there. We attracted 25,000 people, influencers, and a whole new audience. That was part of the vision for this team. And I think it was a huge success as well because people saw the paint job and the paint job made up for a lot of what I said at the beginning. People said: “Wow, we finally have a nice looking car and a new feeling, a new vision, maybe a new way to run an F1 team.” Well, I won’t deny that it’s been busy, but in the end I got here. Looked at the driver, looked at the workshop, looked at the car, everything was there, everything was ready. Preparations are complete. Overall, I have to say it’s very positive. ”

Integration plan between Faenza, Bicester and Milton Keynes –

Mekies: “It’s very simple. We have very good facilities in Faenza. I think Franz, together with everyone present, has done a very good job in modernizing the headquarters. It was built in 2015 or 2016, so it’s fairly new. That’s a good thing. We have great production facilities and I think we’re very good at building on what we just mentioned. . We are not satisfied with the infrastructure in Bicester today. So I don’t think we put the team in the best possible position today based on history. It was a very small facility, but the reason we’re here is because we’re using the wind tunnel that’s in Vista. As this is no longer the case, we have decided to close down this website. This location is now the de facto aviation department. We have an aero department, we have a concept department, and we have a few other parts. This will therefore be scrapped and a new headquarters will be built in its place in Milton Keynes, outside Red Bull’s campus.

“And just like the high quality facility we have in Faenza, this will be a state-of-the-art facility. To answer your question, the plan is to move the people there from Bicester to Milton Keynes. And building a new head office means you have more capacity, meaning you can take advantage of the opportunity tomorrow to enter the job market and work in the UK, no matter what sector you want to work in. We want to find people who want to stay with us, whether it’s a race engineer, a simulation engineer, an aero guy, a design guy. I think it is now possible to do so.

“Historically, doing something like that in F1 is a big disadvantage and there aren’t many successful examples.” We know that. That’s why we don’t ignore history. We only think that the world has changed drastically. It’s not just about technology, it’s about how people think. And we are trying to make that happen. We think this could be an advantage. Sometimes we brought people in because they wanted to live in Italy, and sometimes we brought people in because they wanted to live in England. And we want to use that as a strength, not a weakness. ”
