17-Year-Old Mahika Gaur, On ODI Debut, Clean-Bowls Both Sri Lanka Openers In Stunning Opening Spell

Watch: England’s new recruit Mahika Gaur, who previously represented the UAE, dismissed Chamari Athapaththu with a jaffa for her first-ever ODI wicket during the first ODI against Sri Lanka on Saturday (September 9) and repeated the trick soon after.

The 17-year-old Gaur played 19 T20Is for the UAE before selecting for England and made his 20-over debut for the team last week. Her first T20I wicket for the Gaurs’ new team also happened to be attapastu, when she sent her team back with an outswing.

Although Gaur never played an ODI for the UAE, he grabbed his chance by being selected in England’s eleven for the match against Sri Lanka at Chester-le-Street, taking two wickets in two overs .

On the last ball of the 5th over, Gaur threw the ball before it turned and hit the off-stump of the Sri Lankan captain. Overall, this is the third time Atapattu has been dismissed by the Gaurs, with the teenager also dismissing her in her T20I last year when she was still playing for UAE.

In the next match the Gaurs bowled, she dismissed Anushka Sanjeewani with a well-placed pass near the wicket. The first player appeared to drive, but the ball slipped over her edge and crashed into her mid-stump.

Thanks to the two setbacks, Sri Lanka fell to 26-2 from 6.4 overs.
