Zimbabwe vs Nigeria: Did Coach Brito’s strong words translated into action?

Nigeria’s Super Eagles secured a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe’s Warriors in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

Zimbabwe’s Warriors drew a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Nigeria’s Super Eagles at Hue Stadium during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, reports Soccernet.ng.

Before the match, head coach Bartemor Brito showed no consideration for Peseiro’s men and emphasized his team’s intention to win the duel.

Throughout the match, the Zimbabwean team continued to put pressure on Nigeria. Walter Musona’s superb free-kick put the hosts ahead in the first half, before Kelechi Iheanacho equalized after a number of attempts by the Nigerian team.

Brito previously said the Warriors were committed to winning and their performance showed that intent.

“At this level, every opponent is playing to win. We will also be playing to win against Nigeria,” Brito explained. “They will be strong, but so will we. We are here to face them.”

Nigeria had 52% possession and dominated the attack with more dangerous attempts, while Zimbabwe had chances with three attempts outside goal and one inside.

This result shows that Zimbabwe has emerged as the favorites to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Also, this was the second consecutive draw with Nigeria since 2019, and it was a disappointing result for Nigeria as they aim to qualify for the World Cup.
