Williams picks Lia Block as she forays into open-wheel racing

Williams has selected Lia Brock as team principal of its F1 Academy for the 2024 season as the team moves towards single-seater racing.

Williams Racing has announced that American driver Lia Block will represent Williams Racing in the ART Grand Prix during the 2024 F1 Academy season. Leah is an accomplished driver in a number of disciplines including rally, Extreme E and rallycross. The 17-year-old started karting and rallying at the age of 11, but her F1 Academy debut will be her first full season in single-seater racing. Lia recently conducted tests in an open vehicle to prepare for this new challenge.

Lea grew up in the world of motorsports and has won numerous awards, most notably winning the 2023 American Rally Association Open Two-Wheel Drive class and becoming the youngest ARA Champion in history.

As part of the Williams Racing Driver Academy, the team will support Leah’s learning and development to maximize her potential throughout the F1 Academy season. She will work closely with the Grove team to develop her skills and take advantage of all the support the Academy has to offer.

F1 Academy, the all-female racing series launched by F1, will enter its second season in 2024, with each F1 team fielding a driver. All seven rounds of the series will support his F1 races in Europe, Asia and North America, with the season starting in Saudi Arabia and taking place in Miami, Barcelona, ​​Zandvoort, Singapore, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
