Why my dad never wanted me to play football- Chiamaka Nnadozie

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nadojie recently spoke about why his biological father opposed his decision to become a footballer in the first place, reports Soccernet.ng.

Nadozi shot to fame with her spectacular penalty save that saved Nigeria from defeat against Olympic champions Canada at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

But before she could rise to stardom, her father discouraged her soccer ambitions.

Her father, who had played soccer himself, pointed out that her cousin also tried soccer, but was unable to make a living from it. Despite this, Nnadojie remained steadfast in her determination to follow her passion.

“When we went to play soccer, he always said, “Girls don’t play soccer.” Look at me. I played soccer, but it didn’t work out. Your brother, he played, but he didn’t get results. Your cousin played but didn’t make it. So why would you want to choose this? Why don’t you want to go to school or do something else? ” she revealed as quoted by CNN.

Nadozier’s journey changed significantly in 2019 when he made his World Cup debut and developed into an impressive goalkeeper.

Her role as Nigeria’s starting goalkeeper in her team’s 2-0 win over South Korea made her the youngest goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet in a World Cup, confirming her career choice I realized that.
