Why eight-time Bundesliga champions refused the chance to sign Victor Boniface

Victor Boniface has been in great form this season with his new team Bayer 04 Leverkusen, scoring seven of his seven league goals.

The only reason Nigerian striker Victor Boniface is playing for Bayer 04 Leverkusen is eight-time German Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund, reports Soccernet.ng.

The Black & Yellows had the opportunity to sign Leverkusen’s current duo Granit Xhaka and Bonifatis, but turned down the opportunity.

According to

Sport Bild, both Granit Xhaka and Victor Boniface were offered to BVB, but the timing wasn’t perfect for Boniface. The 22-year-old was offered by the Black and Yellows in the January transfer window.

With Sebastien Haller back in goal after a miraculous recovery from testicular cancer and Youssoufa Moukoko always reliable when asked, Dortmund’s leadership decided to push Boniface away and he joined Leverkusen. I decided to move to.

With the departure of Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid, the 1997 UEFA Champions League winners embarked on the transfer market, bringing in Felix Nmeka, Marcel Sabitzer, Ramy Bensebaini and Niklas Furkrug.

The management are happy with Haller and Moukoko as their main suppliers, leaving Donyell Malen and Karim Adeyemi as options in case of injury. However, head coach Edin Terzic was of the opinion that the team needed a striker with strong heading skills.

Boniface was already working at Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen at the time, so Dortmund had no choice but to select last season’s Golden Cannon winner Niklas Furkrug.

It looks like Bay Arena supporters got an even juicier side of the deal. Granit is the star of the midfield with Xhaka and Bonifatius leading the team to the top of Germany’s top league.
