Who Are The Five Most Expensive Domestic Buys At The Auction?

The IPL auction made several young Indian players millionaires and here are the most expensive domestic players in the 2024 auction.

Most expensive Indian domestic players in IPL 2024

Harshal Patel: INR 11.75 crore (Punjab Kings)

The medium pacer was sold at the highest price by Punjab Kings in the IPL 2024 auction as it was put up for sale by RCB ahead of next season. Harshal Patel was involved in a fierce bidding war with Gujarat Titans, but was eventually poached by Punjab to join the franchise alongside Arshdeep Singh. Harshal took 209 wickets in 178 matches but has a tendency to leak runs at his death. However, the lack of experienced Indian pacers and their demand led to a hike in prices.

Sameer Rizvi: INR 8.40 crore (Chennai Super Kings)

Rizvi was perhaps the biggest surprise buy, increasing by Rs 8.4 crore over the base price of Rs 20 crore. CSK was involved in a bidding war with Gujarat and Delhi, but was eventually acquired by MS Dhoni. The 20-year-old uncapped player from Uttar Pradesh has played only 11 T20 matches but has averaged 49.16 runs. In the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Rizvi hit 18 sixes in seven innings and scored maximum runs in every 11 balls. Rizvi also scored his third highest runs in his UP T20 league this year, scoring 188.8 runs and 455 runs.

Shahrukh Khan: INR 7.4 crore (Gujarat Titans)

The middle-order batsman has been in great form in T20 matches this year, posting a batting average of 158.69 in 18 innings. Shahrukh Khan is usually a lower-order batsman, but over the years he has been named the finisher for the Tamil Nadu team and has emerged as a match-winner. However, his IPL record was not spectacular and he averaged only 20.28 runs in 31 innings. However, the lack of available domestic finishers led the team to rely heavily on him. This is the first time he will represent a team other than Punjab in his IPL.

Kumar Kushagra: INR 7.2 crore (Delhi Capitals)

Delhi Capitals have added a third goalkeeper to their squad as Rishabh Pant’s return in 2024 is still uncertain. Kushagra, a member of the 2020 U-19 squad, is yet to break into the T20 stage, but he has plenty of potential. He scored 227 runs in five innings, including a fifty in the final, making him the sixth highest scorer in the Deodhar Trophy that year. The Jharkhand player became the youngest player to score over 250 runs in a first-class innings in last year’s Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Nagaland.

Shivam Mavi: INR 6.4 crore (Lucknow Super Giants)

The Uttar Pradesh quick, a member of the 2018 U19 World Cup winning squad, has earned over Rs 60 crore in the last three seasons. He moved to Gujarat from KKR last year and played just six matches, taking just five wickets. He was released at the same time and selected by LSG to replace Abesh Khan, who had earlier moved to Rajasthan.
