England head coach Matthew Mott has refuted claims from Eoin Morgan that there could be internal problems in the side after their fourth consecutive defeat in the World Cup, against India.
Matthew Mott appeared before the press after England were bowled out for 129 in the chase and lost by 100 in Lucknow. He was asked by a reporter about Eoin Morgan’s comments. Morgan said in his match commentary that he felt England had problems in the dressing room, which could lead to poor decisions and a series of poor performances on the field.
“I just don’t believe that,” Mott replied. “I think anyone who is in our tent right now will tell you that despite the result, we are an incredibly close-knit unit…I said to our players the other day, Former international rugby player Dave Humphreys was surprised given the circumstances. “We achieved results, but when he came to observe us for a week, the troops I was very nervous.
“When you lose, you always have the chance to break up and go your separate ways. From my point of view, all I can say is that this group was incredibly strong in this part. It’s a lot of fun to watch. People put their arms around each other and try to help each other. It’s easy when you win, but it’s even harder when you lose. I am proud that we continue to strive for the top. ”
England lost to New Zealand in the first match of the World Cup, with their only win so far against Bangladesh. They then lost to Afghanistan for the first time in international cricket, followed by losses to South Africa and Sri Lanka. Losing to India in Lucknow doesn’t mean they are mathematically eliminated from the tournament, but they are at the bottom of the table and too far to qualify. There must be a series of favorable results.
“Eoin has a right to be heard,” Mott continued. “He’s obviously been away for a few weeks to give birth to his child. He hasn’t been in or around the room, but we’ll definitely talk to him and talk about it. We I have a really good relationship with him, so if he sees something that I don’t see, I’m definitely going to have that conversation.”
Mott will become England’s white ball coach in 2022. His first series as coach was this summer’s tour of the Netherlands, but midway through, Morgan announced his retirement from the national team.
