Director Shreyas Iyer said all the players were heartbroken after India’s six-wicket loss to Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup tournament final. This match was played on November 19, 2023 in Ahmedabad.
Australia won the toss and elected to bowl first on a difficult pitch. India had a difficult start with Shubman Gill losing four runs, but Rohit Sharma hit back with a 31-ball 47, including four fours and three sixes.
Australia’s overall performance in the final was remarkable, restricting India to 240 runs after winning the toss and electing to bowl first. Virat Kohli (54 points), KL Rahul (66 points) and Rohit Sharma (47 points) were the top scorers.
Despite early hits by the Indian bowlers, Australia were down to 47/3 at one point. However, Travis Head contributed to his team’s victory thanks to Marnus Labuschagne (58*), who scored 192 runs for the fourth wicket. Finalist Travis Head scored his 137 points.
Australia lost their heads shortly before winning, but won by six wickets. This was Australia’s sixth ODI World Cup victory after victories in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2015.
A spectacular hundred saw Travis Head named the player of the final and Virat Kohli named the player of the tournament.
Kohli won the award after scoring 765 runs in 11 matches, including three centuries and six fifties. His best score was 117, with an average of 95.62 and a strike rate of 90.31. Virat also had a wicket in the World Cup.
It Still Hasn’t Sunk In And It Won’t For A While: Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer scored a great goal in the semi-final against New Zealand. However, he scored only four runs in the final, and his wicket may have been the one that got Indian batsman KL Rahul and others completely out. Iyer got off to a strong start and soon he scored four, but was outclassed by Cummins on Inglis.
Although he was a lonely figure when Australia won, he shared heartwarming posts on social media.
He posted: “We are grieving. This feeling has not subsided yet and will remain like this for some time.” My first World Cup taught me a lot and all It was an experience that opened my heart to others. I am grateful to have met you. Thank you to @BCCI, team management, support staff, teammates and all the fans who supported us from start to finish. A🇮🇳❤️ And congratulations to the entire Australian team on a great campaign👏 “
